St. Michael’s Episcopal School (VA) and University School of Nashville (TN) infuse social-emotional learning into afterschool programs using monthly themes. Rebecca’s department has had a strong SEL focus for 4 years. With 200 K-8 students in the program daily, they begin each afternoon centering their focus on SEL and DEIBJ themes to ground both students and staff in this work. Ashley is newly incorporating social-emotional learning this year. With 85 K-8 students in the program, they’ve drawn on the school’s established DRAGONS values and DEIJB initiatives to frame the work.
